As a member of the Species Survival Network we showed our support this week by signing a common letter addressed to the French Minister of Ecology. An increase in trade in elephant ivory in France and an increase of export certificates issued by French authorities had been noticed and French NGO Robin Des Bois decided to take action and call for change. The letter requests a ban on the trade in France and on exports from France of raw or cut ivory, a realistic first step that doesn’t include carved ivory (statuettes, jewelry etc). It has been signed by 37 organisations across the globe who are all fighting for the cause, and Lilongwe Wildlife Trust is proud to be a part of it.
