The Research & Rehabilitation team, along with our volunteers, worked hard to prepare the release of 14 Vervet monkeys. First, the team had to catch the entire group from their pre-release enclosure at the Centre. Next, the animals went through multiple health checks and we are happy to report that all are in good condition. The adults have received fitted collars for tracking and data collection for when they are released into the wild which are designed to fall off the animal at a later date. Capturing each individual monkey was quite a feat! Each monkey was then placed in their transport box and loaded onto the truck headed to Kasungu National Park – the future home for these little guys (and gals)! These primate releases take a lot of teamwork, planning and logistics.
