Since one of the urban hyaenas was collared the team at Carnivore Research Malawi have been tracking their whereabouts around the city. During this time one of the juvenile clan members had been seen with a snare caught around its neck. So, they called upon our WERU vet, Amanda, who helped to capture the hyaena last night. Once darted, that the snare was no longer in place but the hyaena had suffered some serious injuries as a result, and was likely to have also had a snare around its ankle. Despite this, the hyaena was in good condition and healing well, proving how robust these animals are!
