SCALES OF JUSTICE: OUR NEW FILM ON THE ILLEGAL PANGOLIN TRADE

Ngaka – pangolin in English – is the most trafficked mammal in the world due to high demand for its scales and claws in traditional medicine.

We’ve lost a million pangolins over the past decade, while global populations have declined by 80% in the last 20 years.

Pangolins in Malawi have the highest level of protection under the National Parks and Wildlife Act – the penalty for capturing, possessing, transport or selling pangolins is up to 30 years in prison. Our new short film follows a family when they get caught on the wrong side of the law.

This short film was developed by Lilongwe Wildlife Trust in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and funded by the UK Government through ‘Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund’.
