The 2015 yellow baboon release has officially wrapped up! For the past few months, the troop has been doing very well, especially in the dry season. As the bush has gotten drier and drier with the green grass turning brown and the dambos drying up, the baboons have still been finding plenty of ripe fruits and seedpods to eat. Our wild immigrant male Roman has still been leading the troop valiantly. I’m very happy to announce that one of our females, Bobbit, is pregnant! I’ve suspected it for some time now, and her belly has grown very big and her bum has turned bright pink confirming the little bab bun in the oven. Little Tosca is all grown up now but will hopefully soon have a little playmate. Good luck troop!

It was heartbreaking to leave my baboon friends and Kasungu NP, but I’m so proud of them and happy that they are getting a second chance at life back in their natural habitat. A huge thank you to all the volunteers that made it out to Kasungu. It was such a pleasure having such awesome people out in the field with me for long hot days. I hope you all enjoyed the bush and the baboons as much as I did!
