Our WERU project is really hitting the ground running now! Dr. Amanda Salb took a trip to Majete Wildlife Reserve to help Dr Pete Morkel with changing the collar on a male lion there called Chimwala. These VHF collars help us to learn more about their range and also monitor their movements, meaning we are able to warn people if the lion is coming to close to them and their cattle allowing them to take appropriate precautions. Hopefully, in time, this will reduce the human-wildlife conflict that is prevalent in areas around National Parks. Amanda is getting some great advice from other experts in the field and soaking up as much knowledge as possible to become Malawi’s go-to person for wildlife emergencies!
