MISSION POSSIBLE MALAWI: LONDON EVENT, 8th FEBRUARY

Lilongwe Wildlife Trust To Host Private Reception on February 8 to Present the Mission Possible Malawi Initiative on Combatting Wildlife Crime

Speakers Include Renowned Conservationists from the Born Free Foundation, Tusk Trust and Save the Elephants

(Lilongwe, Malawi) – The Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, a grassroots NGO dedicated to protecting Malawi’s wildlife and its habitats, is hosting a private reception on Wed., February 8, 2017 at the Ham Yard Hotel from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

The reception is being held to raise awareness of the challenges and successes of wildlife conservation in Malawi and to encourage the audience to drive positive change moving forward. Prominent attendees for the evening will include LWT’s royal patron HRH The Duke of Gloucester, H.E. Kena Mphonda, Malawi High Commissioner, and H.E. Michael Nevin, Former British High Commissioner to Malawi.

Renowned conservationists on hand to speak alongside LWT’s team include Will Travers OBE, CEO and President of the Born Free Foundation, Dudu Douglas-Hamilton of Save the Elephants, and Charlie Mayhew, MBE, CEO of the Tusk Trust. 

The theme for the evening’s presentation is Mission Possible Malawi, and presenters will tell the story of how ‘the Warm Heart of Africa’ is fighting back against serious wildlife crime.

Malawi was recently identified as a key transit country for organized criminal syndicates trafficking illicit ivory to markets in the East.  Illegal wildlife trade represents the fourth largest transnational crime in the world, it impacts national security, biodiversity and human health, and represents the greatest threat to the survival of endangered species such as elephant and rhino.

Despite the enormous challenges faced by one of the world’s poorest countries, Malawi is making significant progress.

The event is being sponsored by the Olsen Animal Trust, a family charity that are valued supporters of Lilongwe Wildlife Trust and passionate advocates of collaboration in animal welfare and conservation.
