Teaming up with Women Together, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust staff recently carried out a four-day learning exchange and training workshop with three groups of women from Lilongwe. Women Together is an upcoming organisation that works with women to implement income-generating activities within their communities.
The aim of the training was to provide an opportunity for women’s groups to come together and share their skills in a variety of activities, including soap making, organic gardening, briquette making, and seedling cultivation. The intention is to develop these skills so that they can be used to generate incomes. The three groups of women that took part were the Tingathe Widows Group from Area 23 who make fuel briquettes, Tickbird Cooperative Women from Chalendewa who make soap, and the Strong Positive Mothers from Kang’oma who taught everyone how to start their own organic gardens.
In addition to the skills shared between the women’s groups, a representative from City Council offered advice on how to plant and care for a tree nursery, and a trip to Lilongwe Wildlife Centre provided them with knowledge on Malawi’s wildlife. Everyone had a great time and we are extremely grateful to all those involved who made the workshop such a success!
