Our education team visit schools around Lilongwe every week to teach them about wildlife and the environment with the aim of inspiring them to care about and protect their natural heritage. And, whilst the children find the lessons fascinating, it’s the educational games that really get the schools kids learning and having fun! Education & Outreach Officer, Frank, always makes sure the children have a great time and take home the right messages. Learning in this way is both fun and informative, and schools always look forward to our visits (and so does Frank!).
We have seven education modules covering a range of topics: deforestation, wildlife crime, wildlife conservation, biodiversity, human-wildlife conflict, waste management and climate change. Each module has tons of informative background reading for teachers, as well as activities and games that support the learning. Our team are now pros at delivering the lessons, and are now teaching the teachers to deliver them. And not just in Lilongwe, but all across the country!
We have already tailored some to protected areas like Liwonde National Park, and are soon doing the same in the North of Malawi with Kasungu, Nyika and Vwaza, so watch this space!
