Work certainly doesn’t stop here at the weekends, and on Sunday our WERU vet Amanda travelled down to Liwonde NP to help tend to an elephant with a snare around its foot. The team were able to successfully dart the animal in need away from the rest of the group and got to work on removing the snare and treating the nasty wound it had left.

It’s always devastating to see the dreadful damage these snares can do to such a big animal. This poor elephant must have been in a lot of pain but thankfully we have the support here to deal with such injuries. Congratulations to the entire team and it looks like the treated elephant is already on the road to recovery as he was seen a few days later at the waterhole with his herd.
