LWT ATTENDS IUCN CONFERENCE

LWT was thrilled to win a sponsored place to attend the IUCN World Conservation Congress this year, just 3 months after being awarded IUCN membership.

Taking place every four years, this year’s conference was hosted in Hawa’ii in the US,  and was attended by over 1,200 government and NGO members
as well as a further estimated 6,000 visitors, and was opened by President Obama himself.

Not only was it a great place to meet likeminded conservation organisations and forge new partnerships, but as a member we were authorised to speak out and vote on over 100 resolutions which will shape conservation and sustainable development strategy for the world’s largest and most influential conservation body over the next 5 years.

Much of our time was spent supporting the efforts of the hotly debated “Motion 007 – closing domestic ivory markets” and we were honoured to contribute in our own small way to part of such an important part of conservation history and see it finally passed by an overwhelming majority.
