Global environmental crime is estimated by the United Nations to be worth as much as $213 billion annually – with over $23 billion of this stemming from the illegal wildlife trade alone.
Our mission is to work in Malawi with local government and like-minded organisations to deliver collaborative enforcement initiatives that stop the illegal killing and trade of wildlife. We believe that a strong legal framework underpins the enforcement of wildlife crime.
Our Wildlife Justice Internship programme offers people with a passion for wildlife protection the unique opportunity to support this vital work.
Amelia, one of our recent legal interns, describes her experience:
“The time spent with the Wildlife Centre office has genuinely been some of the most fantastic months of my life, from the incredibly kind employees, to the beautiful setting and of course the diverse and interesting nature of the work itself.
I would genuinely recommend the law internship to anyone. No two days were the same and whilst it had its challenging aspects it was such a rewarding experience that I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been a part of. I was treated as a professional from day one, which really helped make me feel like I was truly part of their intricate team.
Anyone who enjoys getting thrown in at the deep end will definitely thrive in this environment but never once did I feel too intimidated to ask questions or request help. The members of staff would do almost anything to help you where they could and the employees at the Wildlife Office are genuinely some of the most kind and helpful people I have ever met. In short, jump at the experience if you have the opportunity to go. I didn’t regret a single moment of it.”
