Lilongwe Wildlife Trust invested almost $1 million into Malawi’s wildlife last year and we’re growing fast. We’re accredited and supported by the world’s top wildlife institutes and organisations and our work is diverse. We run Malawi’s only wildlife sanctuary as well as the country’s wildlife emergency response unit on behalf of the government. Our anti-trafficking initiatives include re-writing the Parks & Wildlife Act, introducing sniffer dogs, and coordinating the government’s Wildlife Crime Intelligence Unit. Our wildlife crime campaigning and advocacy work has recently gained support as high up as His Excellency, the President, and our conservation education programmes are expected to reach over 45,000 school children nationwide this year. Wildlife research is also an important area of growth.
Reporting to the Programmes Director, you will split your time between managing and promoting LWT’s volunteer programme and project management of our wildlife crime sensitisation and advocacy projects.
We’re looking for a hardworking, flexible and outgoing individual who has excellent attention to detail, can follow direction closely but also work autonomously and manage their own workload. You need to have a passion for wildlife, and have either worked in the wildlife sector before or at least be committed to learn your topic quickly. International tourism experience is a distinct advantage. Both Malawian and international applicants will be considered. A commitment of a minimum of 12 months is required from 1st March 2016.

If this role is not suitable for you then please consider joining us as a volunteer. Roles include animal care assistant, marketing intern, vet assistant, community outreach assistant, education assistant and doing general work around the centre to assist our busy and dedicated team. Placements run from as little as 2 weeks up to 3 months or more.
