Meet Poppet, our latest vervet monkey rescue! Last week we had a call from a local resident reporting a small monkey showing up at their house trying to enter and steal food. Being young, female, unafriad and alone she is likely to have been an ex-pet.

WERU and LWC staff swiftly went to the area and were able to catch her very easily using a banana and a trap cage. She’s had her first health check and so far everything seems ok, but as with all new intakes she will remain in quarantine until we’re sure she’s fit and healthy. She is very used to people but our work now is to teach her to be a monkey again and we hope she’ll settle in well into a troop here at the wildlife centre.
