The Wildlife Emergency Response Unit was recently called out to Liwonde National Park to remove snares from two elephants – both in the space of 24 hours. That’s quite a feat since they had to be tracked via helicopter then darted from above, before the snares are removed and the wounds cleaned. Both are doing well and should make a full recovery.
On another recent call, the team headed to Kuti Wildlife Reserve to remove a snare from a zebra foal. Mum and the rest of the ‘dazzle’ kept a close eye throughout and when the little one woke up, she called out and over he ran. Happy news for this little guy and another job well done by the team!
